Title sequence analysis, F.R.I.E.N.D.S

To begin the title sequence it has a background of new york (to show where it is set) and the name of the show. With its famous theme tune. (as shown to the left.)













Secondly, it then shows scenes of them being "friends" and generally expressing there characters. (as shown to the left)

In this title sequence many shots from old and new unseen scenes are shown. Also, it introduces each actor/actress in scenes-shots from there characters listing their real names not there character names (as shown at to the left and below in 3 different examples).


































To end the sequence, it then shows who it was created by with a background of all the cast. (as shown below) and then fades into the first scene.

Research into title sequences

Some history behind title sequencing:
Since the invention of the cinematograph, simple title cards were used to top and tail silent film presentations in order to identify both the film and the production company involved, and to act as a signal that the film had started and then finished. In silent cinema title cards were used throughout to convey dialogue and plot and it is in some of these early short films that we see the first examples of title sequences themselves, being quite literally a series of title cards shown at the beginning of a film.

Title sequences in movies:
Many films have used unusual strange and elaborate title sequences for example int he 1936 Showboat little cut-out figures on a revolving turntable carried overhead banners on which were displayed the opening credits This opening sequence was designed by John Harkrider. In many films the title sequence is shown upon a background (sometimes moving). Also, fonts vary, sizes, shapes, styles and movement.


Title sequences in television:
In general, a television title sequence may include shots from a previous episode, their theme tune and a typographic logo. Although a title sequence may be changes and modified during a series to update cast changes or incorporate new "highlight" shots from later episodes, it will tend to remain largely the same for an entire season such as coronation street or eastenders which have only ever been altered slighty and are highly recognisable tunes. Sometimes the strength of a title sequence expressing the concept of the show will be the key element a producer will target in order to revamp a show between seasons. Therefore some shows have enjoyed several quite different title sequences and theme music throughout their runs, while in contrast some ever-popular shows have retained their original title sequences for decades with only minor alterations.

Our film would be a 15 as it does not contain sex. It doesn't contain much violence, swearing or gore. Only anyone over or the age of 15 can purchase and view this film. Films under this age limit can contain adult themes, hard drugs, strong words, moderate-strong violence/sex references, and mild non-detailed sex activity.

The distributors of Saw are lionsgate, this is who i would like to see distribute my film if i was to make it. They seem reliable and have done many films and it is a big mainstream company. They have distributed many films such as The next three days a recent film , Rabbit hole, The lincoln lawyer, FRED the movie, SAW 3d and Alpha and omega. They do not just distribute horror they do all sorts of genres such as childrens, comedy, action and of course horror.

Se7en 'where the price of sin is death'.

The film Se7en is a horror genre film about the seven deadly sins. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman being the two main stars in this film one black one white, one young one old.
At the beginning of the trailer and through-out it is very monotone and dark with close-up and medium shots mainly. At one point it seems a bit warmer but still with browns creating an era of horror. The music is also very monotone and plain, but it creates tension when you watch it making you scared yet also interested to see more. The lighting is dark and dull. Also, the weather is bad which creates a sense of misery, dullness and horror. There are a lot of close up shots where you cannot see much, this creates a feeling of claustrophobia and feeling trapped. The voice over is very powerful and haunting.

What are the conventions of the horror genre.

1. Horror films are unsettling, 'on-edge ' and aim to create fear and sometimes disgust.
2. Horror films can also include many other genre's such as comedy, sci-fi, fantasy and supernatural.
3. Horror films can create nightmares and bring out hidden worst fears, there definatly not for the light-hearted.
4. Many plots, scenes and parts involved in horror movies involve intrusion of evil; people, events or supernatural origin into the real everyday world.
5. Typical horror films include, ghosts, zombies, werewolves, demons, vicious animals, vampires, cannibals and haunted houses.
6. Horror films now are very different from other decades they tend to varie alot, Horror now is a genre to films which contain extreme gore, jump- scenes and supernatural behavior.
7. Earlier horror films were based on gothic horror and classic literature such as frankenstein and the phantom of the opera.
8. In the 1890's to 1920's supernatural behavior took its first depictions.
9. In the early 20th century the first monster appeared in horror genre films.
10. Remakes of horror films became regular in the 2000's much like 2004's remake of 'dawn of the dead'.
